Streetbikes is a Charitable Company founded in Kirklees, West Yorkshire in 2010. The charity was formed by forward thinking Gill Greaves and a group of like-minded volunteers to provide access to adapted and non-adapted bikes to cycle in a safe and secure environment. They provided various programmes and sessions for people to improve their health and wellbeing through cycling.
In 2015 the workshop moved from Lockwood to Milnsbridge in Huddersfield and allowed us to recycle more donated bikes, service and maintain our own bike fleet.
A major boost to the organisation was the securing of significant funding from the Big Lottery Fund in 2016 and the National Lottery Community Fund in 2019.This would further develop the expansion and future sustainability of the charity.
The Charity has many years’ experience of working with people of all abilities, both mental and physical and our programmes and sessions are inclusive to all.
The bikes we recycle are donated from the local recycling centres and public donations, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill. The quality recycled bikes and parts we sell generate funds that are ploughed back into the charity to enable us to continue our work.
Streetbikes works in partnership with many other organisations to encourage more people to start cycling. These include Kirkless Council, Kirkless Active Leisure, Local Schools, Locala and many more. Working in Partnership with various organisations helps achieve a common aim and goal, namely to enable more people to cycle and improve their health and wellbeing.
