Streetbikes is a Charitable Company founded in Kirklees, West Yorkshire in 2010. The charity was formed by forward thinking Gill Greaves and a group of like-minded volunteers to provide access to adapted and non-adapted bikes to cycle in a safe and secure environment. They provided various programmes and sessions for people to improve their health and wellbeing through cycling.
In 2015 the workshop moved from Lockwood to Milnsbridge in Huddersfield and allowed us to recycle more donated bikes, service and maintain our own bike fleet.
A major boost to the organisation was the securing of significant funding from the Big Lottery Fund in 2016 and the National Lottery Community Fund in 2019.This would further develop the expansion and future sustainability of the charity.
The Charity has many years’ experience of working with people of all abilities, both mental and physical and our programmes and sessions are inclusive to all.
The bikes we recycle are donated from the local recycling centres and public donations, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill. The quality recycled bikes and parts we sell generate funds that are ploughed back into the charity to enable us to continue our work.

Our cycling sessions are held at Spen Valley Leisure Centre and Leeds Road Sports Complex and are fully inclusive for all people with all abilities. We can provide either an adapted or non-adapted bike and an helmet for your session, or you can bring your own bike, however this will need to be checked by our qualified bike mechanics to make sure it’s safe for use. The sessions are held on the two sports centre’s athletics tracks, Calder Valley Greenway, and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal routes. A small charge will be made for the use of the bike, helmet and track, your session will generally last up to one hour.
Our qualified cycle instructors bike leaders will be on hand to help and to give advice.
Street bikes relies on your generous bike donations to carry on with its work. We take any bike of any size and in any condition as long as the frame isn't cracked, dented, or snapped in two and there is no more than 25% rust - we love a challenge, but can't resurrect a write-off!
First of all, if you could complete the donate a bike form located in the donate a bike tab on our website and submit, this will register your bike for either dropping off or picking up. Once registered, your bike will receive a unique bike number, this will enable us to let you know where it ends up i.e. re-provided at an affordable price, Children’s Christmas giveaway, Destitute Asylum Seekers Huddersfield, Christian African Relief Trust, low income families.
